About Ohio State Pools

Veteran owned, and run from a shop in Ravenna

Ohio State Pools is a veteran owned and operated pool builder based in Ravenna, in Portage County. Todd Stump owns the company. Mike, our lead designer, has been designing and building pools for more than 40 years. The crew behind them comes from construction, mechanical systems and landscaping. We build inground pools and the outdoor living around them across Northeast Ohio, and we run every job the same way: design it in 3D, handle the permits, and do the parts you never see properly.

Veteran owned and operated

Ohio State Pools is veteran owned and operated. You will notice it more in how a job runs than in anything we say about it. The plan is agreed and drawn before anyone digs. Everyone on site knows their part. And the work that ends up buried under the deck gets done the way we would want it done in our own backyard.

Todd Stump, owner

Todd has spent more than 13 years in high-end construction, including custom pools and complex structural projects. That background shows up in the parts of a pool build people rarely ask about: the base under the shell, the backfill, the drainage around it and the concrete on top.

Several customers mention him by name in their Google reviews.

Todd's a great guy to work with. He will get you the right fiberglass pool and is one of the best pool builders in the business. He's very knowledgeable and his team is on time and professional. Hard to find that combo with fair prices these days. Highly recommend.

Mike, lead designer

Mike has been designing and building pools for over 40 years, and he was featured on HGTV's Pool Kings. He leads our design work, which starts with a 3D design of the pool on your actual lot. You see the pool, the steps, the deck, the equipment pad and the fence line together, and you can move things around before it costs anything.

Forty years of building also means Mike knows what a design asks of the ground. A pool that looks right on a screen still has to drain, clear the setbacks and leave room for an excavator to get in.

The crew

Our crew comes from construction, mechanical systems and landscaping. That is close to the list of trades a pool actually needs. Construction covers the excavation, the base and the concrete. Mechanical covers the plumbing, pumps, filters and heaters. Landscaping covers the grading, drainage and the yard you are left with when the machines leave.

Because those skills sit in one crew, the pool, the deck and the site work run on one schedule instead of waiting on three separate contractors. Pool service, openings and closings come from the same company that built the pool.

Todd and his crew were amazing for our pool. 10/10 would recommend. The project was priced great, the build and craftsmanship was top notch. If you are looking for a pool save yourself time, headaches, salesman being in your home, and call Ohio State Pools!!!

How we work

Todd's brief to the crew is short: quality materials to prevent failures down the road, and the best equipment available. On a fiberglass package that means Liberty Composites shells, Pentair equipment and a poured concrete deck, installed to the manufacturer's specifications. Our clay does not forgive shortcuts, so we do not take them.

We design every pool in 3D before we dig, and we handle the permits, including the barrier plan your town requires. We publish our fiberglass package prices, from $68,400 to $103,900 installed, so you can plan before you ever call. Anything your particular yard adds, such as fencing, extra decking or dewatering, is priced after the site visit and listed separately.

We also tell you what we think. We lead with fiberglass because it suits Northeast Ohio ground, but we build ICF concrete and Latham vinyl liner pools too. If you want a shape no mold offers, or a pool wider than 16 feet, we will say one of those is the better fit.

Where we are

Our shop is at 4935 S Prospect St, Suite E, in Ravenna. We build within about 50 miles of Rootstown, across 12 counties from Portage and Summit out to Cuyahoga, Stark, Mahoning and Geauga. Being close matters on a pool job. It means we can meet an inspector, check a dig after a storm or come back for a service call without it turning into a day trip.
